Which body part are you?

Romans 12:3 For I say through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we being many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.

As believers in Christ Jesus, we are all members of the body of Jesus Christ, some people are the hands, some are the eyes, some are the legs, some the mouth, some the ears, some the nose etc. the hands cannot function alone in the body, it needs the remaining body parts for it to function, so imagine if the hands thinks of itself more highly than it should. Thoughts like I’m better than the eyes, or ‘I’m more important than the nose' when the truth is that the hand is not better than any other part of the body and it needs the eyes, the legs, the mouth, and the remaining body parts to function adequately because the hands are useless without the remaining parts of the body. The hands should give honor to the eyes and the rest of the body parts always, recognising their importance to the body of Christ, also recognising that without the rest of the body parts and the body, it is useless, and vice versa.

All the body parts have different functions so the eyes should focus on being very good eyes, the nose should focus on being a very good nose, and the hands should focus on being very good hands. This is the way we should live our lives, knowing that we are made for God’s purpose and that we are not living for ourselves. We should be focused on our purpose here on earth, and be honest with ourselves about our strengths and our shortcomings, if the nose is trying to be the ears it would become so useless to the body. Each of us has been given spiritual gifts that should be used to the glory of God, they should be used to help the body of Christ and to help and encourage others too. Can you imagine the eyes refusing to see properly? Or the mouth refusing to eat food that will nourish the body? 2 Cor 5:15 says it all. So that those who live should no longer live self-absorbed lives but lives that are poured out for him- the one who died for us and now lives again.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

The Lord of Hosts!

According to Mariam Webster’s dictionary Hosts can be defined as a great number or a multitude. In the bible, hosts and armies are used interchangeably.   For example, A host of angels or an army of angels. Psalm 103:21 Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! The host of angels do His pleasure, they are stationed to do God's will all the time and they are mandated to do what pleases God. Psalm 148 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens! Praise him from the skies! Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all the armies of heaven! Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you twinkling stars! Praise him, skies above! Praise him, vapors high above the clouds! Let every created thing give praise to the LORD, for he issued his command, and they came into being. He set them in place forever and ever. His decree will never be revoked. Praise the LORD from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fi...
