LIVING WATER

John 4: 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Living means alive, to live means when something continues to exist. So, to drink living water means to drink a particular type of water that makes you exist or makes you alive, but it doesn’t only make you alive it also makes you to never thirst again. John 7:38 ‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ In other words, rivers of eternal life will flow from within them. This means that this living water doesn’t affect the believer alone but also everyone and everything that is connected to the believer because it flows out of him or her like a river.

What is flowing out of you and I? Whatever it is can either ruin an entire generation or save an entire generation. After accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and saviour, how has that decision impacted our family, friends and loved ones? We need to constantly check what is flowing out of us. We are the light of the world and so we are supposed to bring light into this dark world, as believers what is the light that we are emitting into this dark world?

If we are thirsty then we need the living water, the dictionary describes thirst as a feeling of needing or wanting to drink something or having a strong desire for something. As human beings we cannot survive without water, so a cup of water can quench our physical thirst, but there is another thirst that is spiritual this is the same one Jesus told the woman at the well about in John 4: 7-15, we cannot survive spiritually without this living water. Nothing else can quench our thirst but the living water no matter how many gallons of ‘normal’ water we drink we will remain thirsty.

John 7:39 ‘By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not been glorified’ The living water is the Holy Spirit, if we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, God wants us to give expression to the Holy Spirit in our lives, this expression should flow to everyone and everything around us, for example if you are thinking of something, no one else knows what you are thinking except you express yourself, likewise we are not to keep the power of Holy Spirit to ourselves alone but we are to express the power of the Holy Spirit in us which will then affect everyone and everything around us. The disciples needed the Holy Spirit to start their ministry and they began to perform miraculous deeds.

The peace of God that we are so thirsty for comes from the Holy Spirit. Are we feeding our Spirit with the living water or are we feeding our spirit with gossip, social media, worldly music, bad news, greed, self-etc. Revelations 21: 6 “and he said to me, It is done! I am Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. Today I am inviting you to come to the fountain of the water of life that is given to us freely and receive the peace of God which passes all understanding.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
