COMPARING OURSELVES.

Ofcourse, we wouldn’t dare to put ourselves in the same class or compare ourselves with those who rate themselves so highly. They compare themselves to one another and make up their own standards to measure themselves by, and then they judge themselves by their own standards. What self-delusion. But we are those who choose to limit our boasting to only the measure of the work to which God has appointed us – a measure that by the way has reached as far as you 2 Corinthians 10:12-13 TPT. This was a portion of a letter written by Paul to the Corinthians.

God gave us all different talents and abilities because he is the Supreme God and he loves variety. Just imagine if we all looked alike, talked alike, and behaved the same way it would be a boring world. But our diversities make us all uniquely different. God also gave everyone a unique assignment which is our God-given purpose, but what happens is that we get derailed from fulfilling our divine purpose because we begin to compare ourselves.

For example, God has called Mrs A to be a gospel artiste and anointed her with the voice and all that it takes for her to succeed on a global scale, and called Mrs C to be a mother who is going to train up her children in the way of the Lord because they are destined to become the next generation of anointed men and women of God who are going to do great exploits in God’s kingdom. Imagine if Mrs C begins to compare her life with that of Mrs A’s.

In the parable of talents Matthew 25:14-20, it tells us of a master who was traveling and entrusted his property to the hands of his servants before he left. According to the abilities of each man one servant received 5 talents another received 2 and another 1. In relation to the parable of talents maybe Mrs A was given 5 talents and Mrs. C was given 2 talents, they are both gifted with talents and have completely different assignments but If either of them starts to compare notes they will get derailed. In the parable of talents, the servant with 5 talents was not more qualified than the servant with 2 talents, so even if Mrs C’s assignment seems irrelevant to the world it is as relevant to God as Mrs A’s assignment, if she remains focused on God and dedicated to the assignment that God has given to her she will receive her reward.

The most important comparison in our lives should be the comparison of who we are now and who God has called us to be, the assignment we are occupying ourselves with right now versus the assignment God has given to us. If God gives you a maths assignment and you start copying answers from someone who is writing his English assignment the outcome will be a failure.

But the question is how do I know the assignment that God has given to me? The word of God should be our guide and what it says about us, let that be the standard by which we measure ourselves and not the standard of the world.

Stay focused on God and what He says about you and be committed and dedicated to fulfilling your purpose and assignment let that be at the center of all that you do.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
