The Rock that Crushes Hearts of Stone

Proverbs 20:24 ‘A man’s steps are of the Lord, how then can a man understand his own way?’  Jeremiah 10:23 ‘It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.’  These are very fascinating verses of scripture, it means that we are mere mortals and we do not even understand our own ways. Which brings me to the question, so who is directing your life?  Man doesn’t have the capacity to direct the course of his life by himself without help from the supernatural realm, so it is either the devil is directing one’s life or God is. If we are but mere mortals, and have this great limitation is it not wisdom to hold on tight to the Rock? The eternal Rock of ages, and King of all Kings, Jesus Christ.

When we allow God to take control of our lives and yield ourselves to Him, He will direct us but if we are not deliberate about seeking Him and walking with Him fully the devil will be the one directing our lives. Isaiah 64: 7 And there is no one who calls on your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of you. To gain direction from God doesn’t happen automatically, there is a calling on His name, a stirring up of ourselves and a taking hold of God to do. We stir up ourselves by praying, studying God’s word and seeking God’s face, we have to be deliberate about following God completely and obeying His instructions. Many of us have done things our way for so long that we cannot even hear God’s voice anymore, but he is still calling out to us, prodding us, sending people to us, doing all that He can just to catch our attention, but our hearts are so hardened we cannot hear nor see. Jer6: 10 ‘To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Indeed, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot give heed’.

Romans 2:29 ‘Circumcision, the surgical ritual that marks you as a Jew, is great if you live in accord with God’s law. But if you don’t, it’s worse than not being circumcised. The reverse is also true: The uncircumcised who keep God’s ways are as good as the circumcised- in fact, better. Better to keep God’s law uncircumcised than break it circumcised. Don’t you see it’s not the cut of knife that makes a Jew. You become a Jew by who you are. It’s the mark of God on your heart, not of a knife on your skin, that makes a Jew and recognition comes from God not legalistic critics’. It is not the title that makes you a Christian, it is not how religious you claim to be that makes you a Christian, it is not just your outward appearance or your good manners, it is the heart, a heart that yields completely to God that makes you a true Christian. If our hearts are hardened because we still cannot hear God, how then can we gain direction for our lives. It only means the devil is the one directing that life, so it cannot end well because the devil only comes to steal, to kill and to destroy.

If our hearts are hardened, we reject God and His word, we reject the Rock that is higher than us. And we receive God’s judgement Matthew 21: 44 ‘And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.’  My brothers and sisters , it will be a terrible thing to experience the judgement of God but it is coming soon for those who have rejected his word and whose heart remain hardened like a stone, Jeremiah 9: 23-24 ‘ Thus says the Lord, “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me ,that I am the Lord exercising lovingkindness ,judgement and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight says the Lord’. If our hearts are as hard as a stone, how can we know Him and understand Him. God will crush to powder every stony heart and there will no remembrance of him. How do you want the next phase of your life to be? It depends on who is in charge, God or Satan.

Today let us cry out to God to give us a heart of flesh so that we can yield completely to the Rock that is higher than us all and find safety for our souls.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
