HOLINESS

HOLINESS

According to the Strong’s exhaustive concordance Holy is mentioned in the bible 611times. The first place Holy is mentioned is in Exodus 3:5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. God called the place Holy because God was there, does this mean that any place God is should be regarded as holy? I believe so. Leviticus 10:1 Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying: ‘By those who come near Me, I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.’”

Nadab and Abihu offered profane fire in the presence of God, and God killed them. It is a very dangerous thing to behave anyhow in the presence of God, there is an acceptable way to behave in church, people have lost their lives because they have offered strange fire in God’s presence, the lack of fear of God have led many to their untimely death, people have made malicious utterances about genuine men of God and children of God they are not God but God is with them and so it is a dangerous place to be.

Holiness is to be set apart or separated from what is unclean and a consecration to what is pure. Holiness is not about how much good we do or that we try to do, it is not about how many times we pray or read the bible, these are all needful but holiness is recognising the presence of God in our lives and living purposefully with that knowledge that he dwells in our lives, which in turn makes us want to pray, read our bibles and do good deeds, it is being of one mind with God loving what he loves and hating what he hates. Holiness is immediately asking for forgiveness if we fall into temptation because we don’t want to grieve the Holy Spirit. Holiness is not just about dressing holy and looking like a saint all the time, it’s important to dress like a child of God and not a child of the devil but holiness is more than that, it starts from the heart. Holiness should be a way of life and must be reflected in your daily conduct 1 Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Just as Aaron,Nadab and Abihu were priests required to be holy to offer God an acceptable burnt offering, so are we too because we are a holy priesthood. If God dwells on the inside of us we are called to obey him daily and grow in holy living each day.

1Chronicles 22:19 Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. ’Colossians 3: 1-2 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Holiness is having a heart that seeks God continually, setting our affection on things above and recognising that the things here below are fleeting. Holiness is seeking to please God and not men, holiness is seeking to be like God and having the mind of God, it is having self-control and mortifying the deeds of the flesh daily, holiness is showing genuine love towards brethren and doing unto others as you would love them to do to you. As children of the most high God holiness should be our watchword we must be Holy for He is Holy.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
