Beauty for Ashes

Isaiah 63:3 “To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the Spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified"

Ashes are the remains of something that was burnt, for example a book that was burnt to ashes. Ashes represent loss, pain, darkness, disappointments, bitterness, and suffering. Ashes represent a time of lamentation and deep sorrow in the bible.

In these trying times, many have lost loved ones, many have had to say goodbye to family and friends too soon, many are struggling to stay alive because of the effects of diseases and pain, many are going through financial crisis, many have lost dreams, many have lost hope, many have lost jobs, many have lost businesses , may have lost investments, many have had to work through the fire and are carrying ashes the ashes of what was before. But God has promised to replace the ashes for beauty.

Exodus 28:2 ‘And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty’ God wants to beautify us again, he wants to put on us a garment of glory and beauty, take the example I gave about the book that got burnt for instance. God wants to give you a brand-new book and make it even more beautiful than the one that got burnt, but we have to let go of the ashes of the old book. God wants to take away the ashes and give us beauty, He wants to decorate our lives with His beauty and His glory. God wants to use us as His masterpiece to show forth His glory and beauty.

My dear beloved in Christ who are facing deep battles and trials remember that God is greater than any enemy we face in life. We must not fear, when the enemy succeeds in bringing us to a place of fear, we become obsessed with that thing which we fear, then we become oppressed by the enemy and end up becoming depressed, this is the ultimate plan and desire of the enemy.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world." Jesus encourages us to cheer up, because He has overcome the world. We must believe and trust God, we must hold on to His word and believe that He will do what He says He will do. We must never doubt that He is good, and that He is working things all out for our good. Jesus has overcome the world and so have we, because our lives are hidden in Christ Jesus. For he has assured us in His word in Psalm 34:19 that ‘many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all’.  Sometimes we want to hold on to the ashes in our lives, but God wants us to give them all to Him so that He can exchange it with His beauty.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
