TAKING HOLD OF THE VICTORY THAT BELONGS TO YOU.....

Imagine this scenario. A master of a house was rushing out of his home in a bid to catch his flight or just prepare for a long journey , his assistant follows him behind asking some questions about work that needs to be done in his absence, and his driver was at the parking lot seated at his usual corner but he had dozed off. As the Master hurriedly gave instructions, the assistant asked about all the exotic cars parked in the garage, and the master replied, ‘please give all my cars to the driver, I wont be needing them any longer’. Unfortunately, the driver was deep in sleep he didn’t hear this all-important directive given to the master’s assistant by his master. When the driver woke up, he realised his master had gone on a long trip, but because he didn’t know his master had willed all his cars to him he still took public transport, and worked like he had done before because the assistant did not do what the master instructed him to do and he knew the driver was unaware of what had been allocated to him.
When we do not take hold of the victory that belongs to us, we are like that driver that needs to take what rightly belongs to him from the wicked assistant. A lot of us have lived like this driver for far too long, God has given us the victory already and destined us for greatness but just like the driver we don’t know what we have, and we still run around in public transport when we have a Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley etc in the garage. Some people have even lived and died never knowing they had all that in the garage. This is what happens to us when we become Christians and do not know who we are and what God says concerning us, because if we knew we will carry ourselves differently, imagine how differently the driver would have carried himself only if he knew what he had. The assistant who is the devil in this case knows who you are, he knows the glorious future that the Lord has written concerning you but will try by any means possible to stop you from accessing what is truly yours.
The Lion King is my favourite animated movie because of the valuable lessons I learn each time I watch it. Simba was a young lion who was destined to be the king of pride land, he had a wicked uncle called Scar who was jealous because he would never get the chance to be king. King Mufasa, Simba’s dad, dies in a stampede planned by his wicked brother Scar, who also tried to kill Simba but he survived. Simba left his kingdom, pride land, and lived with his new friends a Warthog (Pumbaa) and Meerkat (Timon). He was a Lion, but he forgot who he was. One day he meets Rafiki who is a wise baboon monkey, who tells Simba he knows his father, and out of curiosity he follows Rafiki to a jungle. Rafiki told him to look into the water to see his dad, he gazes at his reflection for a moment and replies “that’s not my father, it’s just my reflection.” Rafiki then says, “no look harder” and then reminds Simba “You see, he lives in you.” Mufasa suddenly appears in the clouds and says “Simba you have forgotten me. You have forgotten who you are, so you have forgotten me, you are more than what you have become.” And told hm to go back to Pride land. Simba shouts back to Mufasa “how can I go back? I’m not who I used to be” Mufasa responds “Remember who you are, you are my son and the one true king.’
Just like the driver, we are like Simba too we have forgotten who we are in Christ Jesus. These are just illustrations, but this is what is playing out in the spiritual realm for many lives. We need to take hold of what belongs to us in the Spirit, it is not a physical battle.
How do we take hold of the victory that belongs to us
1.       Consecration and sanctification: Once we become Christians we are marked in the Spirit as God’s children and even the enemy knows it. We are then transported from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light and so we then become entitled to every blessing God has promised us in the bible. Holiness is the fruit of this regeneration without which the believer cannot ascend to glorious heights of consecration and sanctification and without which no man can see God. Heb. 12:14
2.       Studying the word of God: To take hold of the victory God has given to us we must understand the promises of God. As we study and obey his written word, the seed begins to grow and take root within us, and then we grow in grace, wisdom, revelation and in the knowledge of our saviour. We need the word of God to be rooted in us, and we need to seek to understand and proclaim God’s great promises for us which is a step to possessing them.
3.       Spiritual Warfare: 2 Corinthians 10:4 our warfare is not carnal which means that our warfare is done by fasting and prayers. We must pray and fast until we possess that which is rightfully ours. The enemy is occupying territory in our families, our homes, our businesses, our marriages but we can only take hold of what is rightfully ours by fighting for it even though God has already won the battle for us. Many of us pray but we don’t pray till we take hold of our victory we must never give up until we possess ALL that is ours.

The Yoke of the Ox...

The oxford dictionary describes a yoke as a wooden crosspiece that is fastened over the necks of two animals and attached to the plough or cart they are to pull. It is used to join two oxen together so that there can be unity in what they are doing and they get the job done faster. The yoke is usually custom made and carved to fit the shape of the neck of the ox. When a farmer wants to train a younger ox, he does it with an older ox who understands what to do and is experienced, because the older ox has been allowed to grow to full maturity, so it is the best partner to be yoked with, it is reliable and it will teach the younger one how to pull, how to settle down under the yoke and how to be efficient. The younger ox is just supposed to submit to it and follow the older ox’s leading, but sometimes it is half in and half out of the yoke and not completely under it because it doesn’t want to be yoked (that is to submit and follow the older ox’s leading) and this leads to huge scars ...

And Daniel Purposed in His heart....

Daniel 1:8 ‘ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself .’ In the book of Daniel we see that Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego purposed in their heart that they would not defile themselves. Daniel’s eye was set on this goal, he was not going to eat the King’s delicacies or drink the King’s wine. Daniel knew that God did not want him to eat the king’s food and wine, he knew that it was against God’s rules. Daniel and his friends had their eyes set like a flint, they were determined to please God, they were self-disciplined, not careless, not wishy-washy Christians. Why would this King’s food and wine defile Daniel and his friends? you may ask, it is because the food was unacceptable foods that were forbidden by Jewish laws. Some of the Babylonian dishes consisted of meat from sa...

REST IN GOD

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Hebrews 4:9-10 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. There is a rest for the people of God, but many haven’t entered this rest. Jesus Christ is asking us to come to His rest and to find rest for our souls. Are we troubled? anxious? or fearful? God is calling us into His rest. Are we encumbered by the concerns of this life? E.g school fees, house rent, bills to pay, a troubled marriage, etc. Jesus is saying do your best and leave the rest to me. Worrying too much about all these things will not make much of a difference, instead, we must live and walk by faith, this is the only condition to entering the rest of the Lord. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that of a t...
